This is a rather interesting Land Rover for various reasons.
Firstly it was built on the 18th of September 1958 which makes it a very early 2. 25 petrol (no 321)
They only started building Series 2's in April 1958 and finished in August 1961 when they started to build the 2a.
Chassis number the details below makes it a Home Market RHD 2. 25 petrol.
I have the up to date V5 present and correct ready to go into the new owners name.
It was delivered new on 29th October 1958 in Bronze Green as a full Canvas to The Ministry of Agriculture for use by the Farm Director at Bridgets Experimental Farm Near Winchester.
Originally registered as VLT 935 which is a London number used by Government departments.
Re registered in 1998 to the current reg PSJ 108
It stayed on the Experimental Farm until 1977 and moved around Hants, Dorset and then Oxfordshire.
I have the full ownership history from new with copies of all the V5 documents.
Lots of old MOT certificates back to 2002 and a Heritage Certificate
Last on the road in 2012 it has been parked up since and not used.
With some fresh fuel the 2. 25 petrol engine fired up on the button and sounds very good.
I have a video of the engine running which can be sent to you if required.
It will not drive due to the lack of clutch hydraulics.
Astonishingly the electrics all seem to work incl the original wipers!
Original early Birmingham Land Rover badges front and rear.
Correct early turn vent knobs.
Free wheeling hubs
Good 750-16 tyres all round
Will need recommissioning to the brakes and clutch hydraulics due to standing so long.
The chassis is not too bad but will need some welding to the rear crossmember. The front dumb irons are in good condition as they were re done before it was laid up.
The bulkhead is solid up top but will need work in the passenger footwell and the drivers side has been patched over the years.
This project could either be done as a bare minimum to get it back on the road or go the whole hog and strip it down for a full rebuild.
Currently sporting a hardtop with rear desirable catflap upper door.
It would be very easy to turn it back to a full canvas if you so wish.
Either way it will be very worthwhile and rewarding.
Try and find another from 1958!
