Description
1935 Matchless F4 Sports 250 cc OHV Sloper , Frame number 35F4/ 2036 , Unusual as a standard F4 Sports but know it gets interesting . Fitted with "Dowety" "Oleomatic" front forks and "Dowety" converted rear suspension from rigid to swing arm type with "Dowety" "Candlestick" rear shock absorbers . The history as it reads "Dowety Prototype Motorcycle" . The "Dowety" group experimented with three motorcycles , This Matchless a Scott and a Velocette to develop what was to be marketed as the "Common" "Dowety" front forks which these are NOT. Apparently upon testing this system a component failed and the project was stopped due to injury of the test rider on board the Matchless . The Scott and Velocette were scrapped but for reasons unknown the Matchless managed to escape . Other than the "Dowety" Group this Matchless F4 Sports has had just two owners the later taking on its restoration in June 1992 . Today the F4 presents beautifully and is indeed a rare one off and a great talking point . Superb for any vintage bike collection . It is supplied with V5C , Copies of its original log book , Workshop manual and the history/ correspondence I have drawn from to using this advertisement . Delivery and Shipping Arranged
