When David Brown Limited purchased Aston Martin in 1947, it started an all-new era for the British manufacturer that paved the way for every classic DB series for next coming years to what would be the most iconic classic car series in the world.
1950 brought the first of their Le Mans protype’s to be called the DB2 and Sir David Brown acquired the Lagonda business for the 2. 6 Litre W. O. Bentley-designed engine, which would be fitted to the DB2, DB2/ 4, MKII and MKIII before the official Tadek Malek inline six cylinders were fitted later in the DB4. Undoubtably one of the finest sports cars produced in Great Britain at the time due its luxurious cabin, handling and overall performance, introduced in 1953 the DB2/ 4 provided a lot more room over its predecessor and is believed to be one of the first hatchbacks fitted to a production car.
We are excited to bring to market this fantastic true barnfind 1954 Aston Martin DB2/ 4 MK1 covered in leaves and dust after having sat for nearly 40 years.
The property of a real old gentleman racer and antique store owner Lancelot Hill. Lance had a passion for cars and over the decades built up a varied collection. Sadly, Lance passed away last year and now the cars will need new custodians.
Often the collector would travel overseas in search of stock for his store and as the avid motoring enthusiast, he come across opportunities to purchase rare motorcars and ship them back here to Australia.
From an original M. O. T we place the Aston in Thatcham, U. K. in 1974 with a recorded mileage of 20, 912. We can then confirm Lance took ownership of it and registered the vehicle in NSW in September of 1975, that’s 44 years ago.
Accompanying the car is its original Aston Martin DB2/ 4 handbook, maintenance book, original M. O. T and it’s original NSW registration certificate.
Exceptionally original this Aston Martin is a rare find in such condition and would be a very exciting project for a collector or enthusiast looking to bring back this DB2/ 4 to its former glory.
