We love Defenders. Sure, they don’t have massage seats – or even sound proofing for that matter – but, what they lack in refinement, they more than make up for in character. And this ex-Ministry of Defence 110 V8 Pickup certainly doesn’t want for anything in that department.
Built in 1989 and first registered in January 1990, this Defender was shipped out and put into service in Sudan where it served until its return home in 2001, when it was bought by an MOD enthusiast for his private collection.
Given the service life it led, the overall condition is excellent and is a testament to the care it received over its 30 years. The pickup still retains its unique MOD features, too, such as the NATO hitch, aerial, chassis lights for following in darkness, plus lots more.
It drives as well as it looks, too. The V8 (with an upgraded Edelbrock carb) sounds glorious and provides bags of torque, the 5 speed manual gearbox shifts faultlessly and the power steering makes manoeuvring easy. Recent work carried out includes; service, wheel bearing adjustment, rust repair to passenger seat box, new water pump, plus a chassis rub down which was wax oiled and repainted.
This is a rare and unique Defender with tonnes of character that is ready for new adventures.
