The Volkswagen Type 2 ‘Bay Window’ is a car that needs no introduction.
This late production 1979 example is an original Irish car that was sold new from Kanturk Motors in Cork. The car stayed local, too, as the previous owner bought the car in Kanturk a number of years ago before setting about a massive restoration to bring the car up the incredible level that you see it at today.
Finished in the beautiful colour of Toffee Brown with a white and orange stripe, this stunning T2 originally started life as a panel van before receiving the very best of everything during its restoration and conversion from legendary VW camping gurus, Cosy Campers.
As well as the body being restored to perfection, the interior, engine, brakes and suspension were all prepared with no expense spared.
The engine was upgraded to a 1955cc unit with big valve heads, strengthened conrods and new Weber carbs which provide a massive power gain over the original 1600cc engine. Disc brakes with servo assistance, new suspension (adjustable up front), new brakes and a speed sensitive electric power steering unit were fitted, too.
Inside, the seating has been trimmed in Italian leather, including the custom built rear seating unit which conceals a pull out bed. A leisure battery was also fitted to run the interior lighting.
All in all, this is an unbelievably cool Type 2 built to the very best standards that would suit a variety of uses.
