This one started life as a military-spec 90, with the 12J normally-aspirated engine. The last owner bought it from the well-regarded Island Landrovers as a restoration project (‘a completely dilapidated pile of bits’ (their words)) and commissioned them to complete a full rebuild around a new galvanised chassis. The job was finally completed in March 2020, and this is the result. It’s done under 400 miles since the rebuild was completed.
Very little of the original vehicle remains – the bulkhead is original as it was found to be in good order, the front axle, and the dash binnacle are probably about it. It certainly had a replacement rear tub, refurbished civilian-type doors, new wings and bonnet etc. All topped off with an excellent repaint in Windjammer Blue with a new Exmoor Trim hood.
Mechanically a very healthy and relatively low-mileage 300TDi engine was sourced, refurbished and fitted, together with power steering, R380 gearbox, and disc rear axle.
Of course, when carrying out this sort of rebuild, you have to replace things like the suspension bushes, brake lines etc and this has naturally been done.
So what we finally have is a superb, fully renovated 90, ready for at least another 30 years of fun. Being 300TDi powered, it nips along nicely with good punch from the Turbodiesel motor.
It comes with MOT to March 2021 (no advisories) and, as mentioned, it’s done under 400 miles since completion. What’s not to like about this one – it’s fantastic in my opinion.
On our own website, you’ll find our usual two videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, both of this particular example.
