motodrome are pleased to offer GB165, a 1998/ S reg Land Rover Defender 50th Anniversary 4. 0 V8, as usual finished in Atlantis Metallic.
50ths are fitted as standard with automatic transmission, anti-roll bars, air conditioning, factory Safari rollcage, cubbybox, deleted rear bulkhead , NAS rear step, full-length chrome sidesteps, and pewter alloy wheels (shod with BFG all-terrains) all of which this retains.
This one was restored by Simon Durant, the acknowledged expert in the model, and re-emerged in 2017. Since then it has covered less than 1000 miles and always been garaged. Simon Durant restorations are highly prized. GB165 is very well-known to the Defender 50th register, and lots of additional detail on the vehicle and it’s restoration can be found on their website.
You’ll see from the photos that it’s fitted with Exmoor Trim seat covers throughout, to protect the Rayleigh cloth trim, which is in excellent shape. You’ll also see a Moto-lita steering wheel (we have the original) and the vulnerable speaker grilles have been removed (again, we have them).
Whilst it retains it’s original stereo head unit for authenticity, it’s fitted with Pioneer and Audison controllers and subwoofer, and uprated but subtle extra speakers for better sound quality.
Mechanically, Overfinch fitted a ‘quick ratio steering box’ and ‘precision steering conversion’ in 2000, and in 2012 the renowned RPi Engineering carried out a top-end engine rebuild including Stage 1 cylinder heads, Piper 270 cam, and Hedman headers. Coupled with the performance ECU fitted, these mods give better performance and the exhaust makes a lovely V8 burble.
