This matching numbers, original RHD Home Market Aston Martin DB6 was supplied new in 1967 by Leeds based agents Arnold G Wilson to a South Yorkshire businessman, the proprietor of P. J Burke Ltd in Wombwell. The Aston Martin was sold and registered new to the Barnsley firm with nonstandard equipment to include Chrome roadwheels, heated rear screen, 3 ear wheel spinners, power aerial, front seat belts and a radio housing. An Aston Martin ‘Statement of Origin’ confirms the chassis and engine numbers as all matching, original RHD specification and the comprehensive history also contains a copy of the original order details and guarantee details.
LUA 982F has been known to the Aston Martin Owners Club since 1982 as confirmed by the Registrar, and during the 1990's the DB6 appeared to be in regular use with MOT certificates detailing annual mileage. In 1997 the car was in the hands of renowned specialists Wren Classics in Dorset who carried out an engine rebuild to include liners, pistons and rings, big end and main bearings, new timing chain set and carried out an unleaded cylinder head conversion. The mileage at this point was recorded at 50, 112. For eleven years Wren Classics maintained the car for its Oxfordshire based owner with invoices on file for various maintenance.
Having covered 4000 miles in over 14 years, the cars Oxfordshire based owner sold the Aston Martin and it headed to north to West Yorkshire where it had started life. Its new owner put the car into the hands of an Aston Martin specialist who carried out various restoration work to the car. The engine was checked and found to have low compression on one cylinder so the engine was stripped down 14 years after its initial rebuild and rebuilt once again with machining work including re-grinding the crankshaft carried out by the highly regarded Drakes Engine Re-Manufactures in Bradford. Rikki Cann Ltd supplied new pistons and rings, rear crankshaft seal assembly, and new bearings including conrod bearings. At this point, the Aston Martin was also treated to a full interior re-trim and with the engine removed, the engine bay painted, and detailed and various ancillaries painted on re-fit of its original and rebuilt engine. Having carried out some renovation work, its relatively new owner marketed the car for sale and in late 2011 sold the Aston Martin, finding a buyer in Switzerland where the car then spent 7 years.
Over the 7 years in Switzerland this DB6 covered 6000 miles taking the recorded mileage to 60, 300 and in 2018, the car returned to the UK, selling to a private collector in West Sussex. The DB6 was inspected and found to be in excellent order, but was beginning to show signs of bodywork issues. The new owner then commissioned Specialised Automotive Services Ltd to carry out a complete body restoration that totalled a staggering £135, 000. All work has been detailed comprehensively within a file of invoices, and as expected at this level of cost, the shell was completely rebuilt to an exceptional standard.
Since completion in 2018, LUA 982F has been part of a private collection with minimal mileage covered. The car was recently serviced and covered some road test miles that confirmed the car is in strong mechanical condition. The engine has only covered 6000 miles since its most recent rebuild and holds very good oil pressure and performs superby. The gearbox is superb, and the DB6 handles perfectly. The underside presents superbly and is structurally outstanding as expected having had a £135, 000 body restoration within the past few years. The Silver Birch paint finish is first class, the body panels exceptional and chrome work is excellent throughout. The interior is stunning nine years on since being re-trimmed and the engine bay, boot compartment and underside is all detailed very well. This is a wonderful example, a car that has been incredibly well maintained in recent years and has impressive provenance being a matching numbers, UK car that's had a top class recent restoration.
