MOTODROME ARE DEFENDER SPECIALISTS – SEE WEBSITE FOR FULL STOCK
motodrome are pleased to offer this 1989 Land Rover 90, that started life with the asthmatic and unreliable 19J turbo diesel engine, but at some point over 10 years ago has been converted to tuned Rover V8 power.
Specification-wise it has a rather nice Masai lowline roofrack, freestyle alloys with spacers and shod with a matching set of 4 Hankook Dynamic tyres, XS Style sidesteps, clear light kit, grey light surrounds and grille, high-force heater intakes, rocksliders, full chequerplate kit, darkened rear windows, hard spare wheel cover, adjustable towpack, and rear mudflaps.
Inside it has a sports steering wheel, centre cubby box, aluminium gearknobs, and a pair of offset seats in the load area (with belts) making it a 4 seater
Underbonnet the Rover V8 (reputedly a 4. 0 version) has a Holley carb, hi-lift camshaft, performance headers, and twin thermostatically controlled fans.
Odometer reading 138000miles.
This one was the subject of a Wheeler Dealers TV programme ‘upcycle’ (rather than restoration) in 2010 (Season 7 Episode 8 if you have a spare hour) and has covered around 18000 miles since according to the MOT database. According to the Wikipedia entry they:
Fitted an aftermarket hi-lift camshaft, replaced the hydraulic valve lifters, replaced the original steel wheels with a set of modern Defender alloys, fitted new modern headlight surrounds, which were repainted silver, replaced the original orange front indicator lenses and clear bulbs with clear lenses and orange bulbs, had the aftermarket bonnet checkerplate powdercoated satin black, replaced the steering wheel with an aftermarket unit, replaced the seat bottoms, fitted a new front grill, which was repainted silver, fitted a new front bumper, replaced the original front "Land Rover 90" decal with a modern "Land Rover" sticker and relocated it to the bonnet tip, replaced the passenger and rear doors, installed a pair of rear side windows and a full respray from blue with a white roof to all Gunmetal Gray.
It appears the Rover V8 had been installed before they got their hands on it, although there is a short video of Edd China carrying out the camshaft installation etc here.
It comes with MOT to June 2021 (no advisories).
On test it performed superbly, with an addictive exhaust note – you can’t resist giving it beans…
