We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and important piece of MGB history. It's historic significance has been verified by the late Don Hayter, the designer of the MGB, with supporting documents written by him. This was originally one of six prototype cars that were used for emissions testing of the 2. 0 'O' design engine in the US in 1974. Having completed (and failed) it's testing of that design engine, it was subsequently returned to the UK in 1980 where it went on to live a cosseted and cared for lifestyle, leaving it preserved for us to enjoy today! Whilst the car still bears many of the original US spec features including the corner marker lights, it has been converted and improved for modern UK driving over the decades. It is now right hand drive, and fitted with a conventional 1. 8 'B' series design engine, and all the better for it. The attention to detail on the car is superb, with many expensive new components including upgraded brakes, electric fan and stainless steel exhaust. Pretty much every nut and bolt has been replaced with stainless steel, and the engine bay is very neat and tidy. The roof, tonneau cover and interior seats, trim and carpet are all in excellent condition. The car has been re sprayed in the past in it's original Blaze red (yes it is orange), this is not perfectly fresh but is certainly extremely presentable and gives it much more of a likeable and usable 'survivor' character, rather than a totally restored example. The shell is of course rust free and is in great condition underneath, it really has had no expense spared and has clearly been in enthusiast ownership throughout it's life. The chrome work is also as new. The car rides very well on it's recent Mini-light style wheels and BF Goodrich tyres. It starts 'on the button' and runs and drives very well with fantastic response and a lovely throaty exhaust note. The 4 speed gearbox is smooth and the overdrive works as it should. It comes with a substantial history file with a vast amount of receipts for work carried out and further photos and documents to verify it's heritage. To sum up, as well as being a real part of the MGB story, this is a very attractive, immediately usable and thoroughly enjoyable example of an MGB, and I am sure it's new owner will be as pleased as I am with it!
