OSU 557 is a matching numbers example of the very popular Austin Healey 3000 MkI, finished in its original colour combination of Colorado Red with a Red interior featuring Black piping and Red carpet set. Built on 13-15th September OSU 577 is one of just 672 original right hand drive home market cars. This Healey is in very presentable condition having been restored in the 1990s and kept in a very clean heated garage since.
This Healey is available after decades of loving family ownership during which it received much attention and care. In 1990 the owner commissioned a full body refurbishment which included repair work to the original wings, doors and boot plus fitment of an aluminium bonnet. At the same time a full bare metal repaint in factory Colorado Red was completed.
The paint still presents very nicely today with very few blemishes to the paint work with the paint itself displaying a satisfying deep shine. Panel fitment across the car is very good with the headlights meeting the wings flush and the doors displaying good gaps. The chrome work is in good solid condition. The vehicle rides on immaculate chrome centre lock wire wheels with Vredstein Classic tyres – a popular choice for Healeys. A stainless side exhaust, monza fuel filler and slightly wider tyres gives the car a purposeful stance.
The interior of OSU 557 is in satisfying condition, the piped leather seats have mellowed nicely with age and are free of any rips. All of the original gold-faced smiths instrumentation is present and correct. OSU features full wet weather gear including hood and tonneau (with stiffener bars) in Black Everflex with these items fitting the car well and presenting nicely.
OSU 557 drives very nicely with modern adjustable telescopic shock absorbers fitted, plus a major brake overhaul and service completed by ourselves in 2021. OSU retains its original engine and original overdrive gearbox in fully functioning order. Performance is very good owing to fitment of a Denis Welch aluminium performance head, the free-flowing side exhaust and a healthy motor. In previous ownership the car was routinely serviced at a Healey specialist.
