- Comprehensively restored and prepared
- Built to 1970 FIA rally specification
- Tuned 1, 595cc engine with twin Weber carburettors
Based on a 1972 1600SSS model, this 510 series rally car has been built to evoke the 18th East-African Safari Rally-winning car. The original car triumphed in all categories that year - Overall, Class and Team and paved the way for numerous successes for the Japanese manufacturer. Delivered new to Sweden, this car was converted to rally specification in 2006, most of the work being carried out by DAD Motorsport with all parts including a limited slip differential being supplied by Dawson Automotive. Built to full 1970 rally-winning FIA specification, the car has twin Weber twin-choke carburettors atop a well-tuned engine with dyno sheets showing 146bhp @ 7, 000 rpm and 152 lb/ ft torque. Minilite-style alloy wheels with forest tyres are fitted, and a full roll cage was installed in February 2006, with a certificate. The Lifeline fully plumbed-in fire safety system requires refreshing as it expired in 2017; the ATL fuel cell expired in 2016. The Datsun comes with expired FIA HTP Papers, original service book and Swedish registration papers. The Datsun was rallied extensively in Sweden in 2012 and was last used in anger on the Goodwood Festival of Speed rally stages in 2015 and 2016, where it was driven by Rauno Aaltonen, who also signed the car. Having been unused since 2016, it will need some recommissioning and work to the brakes prior to returning to active use.
