We are delighted to offer for sale this immaculately restored Morris Mini Cooper 998cc Mk2.
First registered in March 1969, this fantastic Mk2 Mini Cooper has been the subject of a total ground up restoration completed by renowned Mini specialists.
With matching numbers, the accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms the original specification as El Paso Beige with Snowberry White roof. The 18-month restoration was completed in late 2017 and involved extensive works which included a full bare metal treatment. In addition, the fitment of new front wings, replacement inner and outer sills, new doors, boot lid and rear valence were included.
Prior to painting, the bodywork was treated to 7 coats of hi-build primer which were repeatedly blocked before being painted and hand polished to perfection. The quality of paintwork extends to the underside which has also been correctly prepared and finished. Together with a new windscreen and fitment of new rubbers and seals throughout, new replacement chrome bumpers, overriders, front grille and grille surround were added to match the high-quality finish of the paintwork.
The interior features the original re-furbished front and rear seats together with original renovated steering wheel. Front and rear door cards and liners along with the rear parcel shelf were all replaced together with new carpets and seat belts helping to make the interior look both correct and like new.
Mechanically, the car remains in the same superb condition throughout with a huge file of invoices and records for parts and work competed by renowned Mini specialists. During the restoration, mechanical preparation of both front and rear subframes involved them being sandblasted, primed and re-painted. Work to the original Hydrolastic suspension units and all connecting pipes was also completed before being fully cleaned, painted and re-assembled.
All hydraulic hoses, fuel lines and connections were replaced together with all rubber suspension bushes. Brake components including front and rear discs, calipers, master-cylinder and servo were all upgraded to Cooper ‘S’ specification to help improve performance. Front and rear Cooper ‘S’ wheel spacers were also added prior to fitment of the refurbished standard 3. 5” steel wheels shod with new tyres.
The engine which had covered a genuine 40, 000 miles prior to the restoration was stripped, new main bearings fitted and bores re-honed with new replacement gaskets, oil pump and water pump. In addition, newly reconditioned twin SU carburettors and a stage one cylinder head were supplied and fitted together with a new Piper Megadyne 256 camshaft. Finally, a new Maniflow exhaust manifold and single box exhaust system were included to bring the condition of the car up to its current superb standard.
Owned by a senior design director for a leading British motor manufacturer, this fantastic example of one of our most loved and historically important motor cars is in immaculate condition throughout and ready to be enjoyed.
