EXTERIOR
Owned by one meticulous keeper for the majority of its life, this cherished example remains in fantastic and highly original condition. The paintwork presents to an excellent standard with only a few discreet blemishes to report, namely some light frontal stone chips with only one or two minor touch-ups elsewhere to report on close inspection. The car is lovely and straight along both sides with a deep and uniform shine across every panel. All the trims still appear very fresh and none of the rubber seals have discoloured or perished. A splendid example in truly mileage-defying condition throughout.
INTERIOR
The airy E39 cabin looks as if it's seen only 20k miles, let alone 98k - our showroom photos really don't do it justice! The grey cloth upholstery has worn extremely well with no wear to the bolsters or sagging to the centre panels, and at the rear the seats appear to have never even been sat in. The interior is lifted further with glossy Vavona wood trim adorning the dash, centre console, and door cards, again all in perfect unmarked condition. Another really nice feature is the multifunction M steering wheel, the leather retaining an excellent factory texture with no marking to any of the switchgear. Up top, the headlining is perfect, and in the footwells the carpets are still well protected by the original velour BMW overmats. This pristine finish is carried through to the boot area and carpet, which has also been covered from new by the original BMW liner.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
With its smooth 2. 5-litre straight-six and silken automatic gearbox this 523i is a dream to drive, a real testament to the E39's superior build quality and engineering. Having only ever been serviced by the original supplying BMW main dealer (Coombs/ Vines of Guildford) the service history of this particular 5-Series is as good as they come. The last service was carried out just 2k miles ago and the MOT is valid until October 2021.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The original 16-inch alloy wheels appear in perfect unmarked condition having been fully refurbished to the highest standard by Lepsons in April this year. They are shod in a brand new set of Continental tyres. The brakes also have plenty of life left and do an excellent job of pulling the car to a halt quickly and in a straight line.
HISTORY FILE
This extremely well preserved, low owner E39 was first registered in June 1999; it was supplied new by Coombs BMW of Guildford (later Vines BMW) who have maintained the car ever since; amazingly the original bill of sale is still present in the paperwork, and the Coombs BMW number plates are also still fitted. The History File is complete with original service booklet and pretty much every main dealer invoice from new. Remaining with its first owner right up until late 2020, the car has now driven just 98k miles in the hands of only two registered keepers. Details of the stamped maintenance history are as follows:
