Mk1 Ford Cortina Rally Car Project. All ready to hit the road and enjoy lots of smiles per miles! You'll need to get used to hearing "my dad had one of those" or "you don't see many of those anymore". This car would make a good base for a full Rally car build or equally could just be enjoyed as it is now. Runs and drives well and very much looks the part. It originally started life in Finland where the it was turned from a standard car in to a "1500 GT replica" and used in some local events, it was then imported to the UK by the very reputable Koskin Import on behalf of a customer (the previous owner) who wanted to take part in classic rally events. After importing it, he began preparing the car for this purpose but this was cut short due to ill health so the car was sold. The car comes with a valid FIA Historic Technical passport so is eligible for historic racing and rally events, it also comes with a folder full of reciepts and various documents (including import documents) from it's past life.
I bought the car last year just to enjoy on the weekends and to fettle as I went along. Of course COVID made this difficult with me having to shield and long waiting times on parts. Never the less I have managed to have some work done to the car during the time I've owned it. The list of bits that have been dome are as follows.
Four new wheels with new gravel tyres, new valves and balancing.
One new wheel bearing.
Two new brake cylinders to rear wheels, rear brake shoes and new brake fluid.
New cam and push rods. (Rally cam was removed because it broke the standard push rods)
Oil change and new filters. Anti freeze change.
Rebuild gear lever within turret.
New gearbox bearings.
New reverse idle and synchro ring in gear box
Gearbox oil change
New bulbs and other sundries.
Full set or new window rubbers including 1/ 4 light windows so vehicle is now water tight.
The car now runs and drives well and sounds fantastic so can be used and enjoyed. I need to sell now due to wanting to move on to the next project and I feel it is someone else's turn to enjoy this charming old girl.
Remember, this car is nearly 54 years old so please do not expect it to be perfect, that's part of the charm!
