Description
HERE is a 1962 P5 Rover series 1A. She is the straight-six 3-litre version and the only notable difference between the Series 1 and the 1A (to the best of my knowledge) is the introduction of quarter-light windows.
She is the most gracious of movers on the road, benefitting from both power steering and the addition of overdrive to her auto box with column change. Her interior has just about the right level of patina to the leather while the excellent dashboard displays very early-style P5 clocks.
She appears to be really good underneath and has retained her four original jacking points. This Rover idles superbly and indeed you can hardly hear the engine. Some small areas might benefit from some cosmetic improvement but I don't think any of them really detract from the beauty and grace of this early P5. I have priced her extremely fairly, taking into account a few bits and pieces here and there. A true bargain in my opinion.
The classic cars I sell are motoring antiques. There may be a few dozen left of any one model, maybe more and maybe less. Most of them had lives that lasted anywhere between three and seven years (on average). Today's classics are all rare. They have survived. Please do not come and look at one of my cars from the 30s, 40s or 50s and point out some blemishes. Do the maths and work out their ages. If these ancient motor cars are not your cup of tea then please don't make an appointment and come and insult them. Buy a three-year-old BMW if that is your thing. Some are restored to a huge degree; some have never been touched and remain original with warts and all. No two will ever be the same. They are not in a showroom "bulled up" for your perusal. I pride myself on being able to find different and interesting - to me at any rate - classic cars and then finding new homes for them. Understand that and we shall all get on very well indeed. Many thanks. Martin.
