NOW SOLD ..... This desirable early Morris car is a rare vehicle being one of only a handful of known Bullnose Cabriolet models that survive. The extensive history file shows this car was given the "MO" reg number from new, given to a new Morris that was registered in Oxford. Also history file states this car was used by Morris to display at a Motor show , brand new in 1924 in Oporto Portugal. Unlike the more common though still fairly rare Morris COWLEY Bullnose you see for sale. This is a super rare Morris Oxford Deluxe all weather tourer. It’s final factory test took place on 16th May 1924 and was first registered In Berkshire on 21st May 1924. The rarity of this car is a subject for debate some think Five , others think this is the only surviving car of its type. This was sold and mentioned in the literature when a specialist classic car company sold it for 27k in 2010. Main differences of note include two opening doors as oppose to one. The roof is a proper structured convertible roof as oppose to a metal pram type frame. It has proper wind up windows front and back as opposed to the clip in fabric windows on the more common tourer. Being a deluxe it has split front windscreen, stainless side vents, stainless door handles, stainless front air vent, rear mounted spare wheel and rear foldable luggage rack. Another difference for the eagle eyed is the horn is an original Klaxton type operated from the dash as opposed to the traditional air brass horn normally mounted on the pillar. Different design as it has a proper opening door frame with wind up glass. There are many other unique things to be discovered. Not factory fit but period correct and very rare indeed are the Gabriel Snubbers. This device which was patented in USA, is an early form of shock absorber to stop bounce in the leaf spring. Very rare accessory that was devised in the 1920s. These have also been restored and there is a special tool in the tool box to adjust and take up any slack, amazing! Also nice to see is the original brass grease gun mounted under the bonnet.
The original list price for the vehicle was £385.
The car has its original 1802cc engine with three speed gearbox and the original car identification plate is still present. This confirms this is a 14/ 28 model and is date stamped 1924. Morris also owned Morris Garages limited which we now know as MG. If this car was built by MG the price would be 4 fold. The car was found in dismantled condition sometime prior to 1975 on the Isle of Mull where at one stage it had belonged to the postmaster inLochbuie. A comprehensive restoration was undertaken including the full refurbishment of the chassis and a completely rebuilt body as well as a full mechanical and electrical overhaul. Therestoration was completed in Lincolnshire where
it was coach painted by William Berkham resultingin wonderful period paintwork. Wefco gaiters have been fitted to all of the leaf springs(current cost inexcess of £1000 pounds). The braking system has recently been overhauled and the car has been fully serviced.
A beautifully presented Morris car. We have priced the car for no more than its standard and more common sister car, but the car itself is so much more. This is a true find and we have never seen another.
