The Subaru Impreza in 1993 was developed, produced and homologated in Group A thanks to the STI (acronym for Subaru Tecnica International) that is the Motorsport division of Subaru Fuji Heavy Industries and Prodrive Ltd UK. The peculiarity of the Subaru Impreza Group A was that its basic configuration, aesthetic and mechanical, was maintained from its debut in '93 until '96, when it was later replaced by the 2-door version in WRC configuration.
Its debut in the Rally was the same year for the 1000 Laghi, driven by Ari Vatenen, the same year in the Rally of Great Britain it was driven by Colin McRae. The history of this car is full of successes among the National Championships of various countries, thanks to official and private teams.
Prodrive as the manufacturer of the official Impreza, used a progressive numbering system of the bodies marked with an abbreviation consisting of the prefix PRO, followed by STI and finally by the progressive year of production.
Prodrive, as is well known, used to resell the Subaru Impreza chassis to different teams, which were re-registered with different number plates: for this reason today it is difficult, if not impossible, to reconstruct the history of the original chassis / engine combinations of the various years.
The myth of the Impreza is mainly due to the extraordinary Colin McRae who drove the car in the WRC with only two plates, the L555BAT and the N1 WRC now owned by the McRae family and David Richards Patron of Prodrive.
In reality there is a third one, the only one to have kept the original combination of the plate and the chassis, that is the M528UWL with PROSTI93002 chassis, of which there is official confirmation from Prodrive, which reads: "CAR N. CHASSIS BUILT EVENT TEST: 002 PRO / STI / 93. 002 / JULY '93 / TEST CAR "
Used from '93 to '96 as a test development for racing cars. It was sold in 1997.
Since that year he has raced in Belgium and France. In 2011 it was bought back in Italy by the collector Carlo Boroli who then restored it from scratch in 2018, new engine etc. Zivian bought this car from Boroli in March 2021. In the texts, this car was entrusted only to Colin McRae.
