Description

HERE's an extremely rare bird. A Mark 2 Cortina estate with bench seat and column change. She's a nice old girl and I had her cruising spot on at 60mph today on a stretch of the old A1. Appears to be very sound underneath and old invoices and MoTs don't show any evidence of what you would call structural work. From the paperwork, it would appear that she came into (or back into) the UK in 1974 when she would be five-years-old. Maybe she had begun life in warmer climes and so that gave her the kick start she needed to go and survive for such a long time. She was given an M reg plate when she came into the UK in 1974, but a Mrs Cunningham of Shrewsbury was her owner in 1996 and she successfully applied to DVLA for an age related plate which of course the Cortina now has.

I am told that she has had very little use over the past three years although she does have a Northern Ireland MoT certificate (and they are fierce on older cars!) which expired in 2018 with no advisories. Her brake pedal feels a little hard and the driver's window has decided to drop down into the door panel. So a couple of minor fettling jobs there. I have neither the time nor the inclination to play about with these old girls these days and they move onto their new homes as they are. As I say, runs very well, is rare, looks well and stands out from the crowd. There's a few cosmetic areas to the rear of the car, mainly the offside arch which could be easily improved and a couple of minor bits on the rear quarters towards the back of the car. The tailgate works well and actually stays up of its own accord. Engine bay is decent.

The classic cars I sell are motoring antiques. There may be a few dozen left of any one model, maybe more and maybe less. Most of them had lives that lasted anywhere between three and seven years (on average). Today's classics are all rare. They have survived. Please do not come and look at one of my cars from the 30s, 40s or 50s and point out some blemishes. Do the maths and work out their ages. If these ancient motor cars are not your cup of tea then please don't make an appointment and come and insult them. Buy a three-year-old BMW if that is your thing. Some are restored to a huge degree; some have never been touched and remain original with warts and all. No two will ever be the same. They are not in a showroom "bulled up" for your perusal. I pride myself on being able to find different and interesting - to me at any rate - classic cars and then finding new homes for them. Understand that and we shall all get on very well indeed. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Many thanks. Martin. the details below).
