Another Great Classic Ford – Recently in from South Africa!
We’re pleased to offer this 1974 Ford P100 Cortina Pickup, a genuine South African “Bakkie”, recently imported and now fully UK registered. All import duties are paid and the UK V5/ logbook will accompany the vehicle.
A Little History – The South African Bakkie
In South Africa, pickup trucks are affectionately known as “Bakkies”, and Ford’s Cortina-based pickups became hugely popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Built to handle farm work, trades and everyday use, the Ford P100 combined the comfort of a passenger car with the practicality of a pickup.
Thanks to the dry South African climate, these vehicles often survive in remarkably rust-free condition, unlike many UK classics. This makes genuine South African examples increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
The Truck
And yes – it really is as good as it looks.
Finished in a great colour that suits the truck perfectly, this P100 is a genuine head-turning classic Ford pickup and a fantastic example of a solid South African import.
Under the bonnet sits the legendary 3. 0L Essex V6 petrol engine – a proper period Ford motor also used in classics like the Capri and Granada. It delivers great torque, fantastic sound and plenty of character.
The truck presents very well overall with excellent, rust-free bodywork and very tidy undersides (see photos). It’s clearly been cared for and makes a striking classic pickup that attracts attention wherever it goes.

Part Project – Honest Description
We like to be completely upfront with our classics, and this P100 is being offered as a part project and sold as seen.
The aftermarket seats currently sit quite high and would ideally benefit from being lowered or re-mounted to better accommodate slightly taller drivers.
The propshaft requires attention/ inspection.
As with any 52-year-old classic vehicle, we would always expect that some servicing, fettling and ongoing attention will be required to bring it up to fully sorted condition.
That said, this is a very solid, rust-free example with huge character and a fantastic base for someone looking for a cool and usable classic pickup.
