Descrizione
Between 1967 and early 1969 Lotus built a total of 218 cars between models 51, 51a, 51b and 51c.
The 51c is the most elaborate version with adjustable suspensions and therefore much better handling, it is also the most desirable of all 51s.
Out of a total of 30 Lotus 51cs built, there are currently 29 left, including 25 in North America, 2 in Belgium and 1 in Germany and 1 in Great Britain, (data from the international Lotus classic register).
This car has spent its entire life in the USA, as proof the original identification plate is riveted to the lower part of the chassis under the driver's legs as on all Lotus 51cs that have been sold in the USA.
The power of this 1600cc 4-cylinder comes from the crankshaft output of 132 hp at 6, 300 Tm, i. e. approximately 115 hp at the wheels, which gives an excellent power-to-weight ratio, the single-seater weighing only 420 Kg.
This power is obtained thanks to this exceptional LOTUS-HOLBAY engine whose cylinder head bears the No. LH232 and is cross-flow.
The engine block is a SCHOLAR N° 2925, it is perfectly balanced which allows sharp increases in speed from 2, 500 rpm. These two engine elements have been optimized to the maximum of the standards accepted by Formula Ford. SCHOLAR Engines is one of the best British engine manufacturers in this field.
Entirely restored in England, this superb Lotus, ready to take to the track, has an FIA HTP valid until the end of 2028.
