Offered for sale is this 1980 barn find Lotus Esprit Series 2 restoration project. This is an original RHD UK car which was unearthed in a barn in Portugal and has just been repatriated to the UK. It’s HPI clear and I have the V5 in my name. This car is eligible for free tax and is MOT exempt although you will have to register it as historic with the Post Office.
This will require a full restoration but the car is running and I have checked that all the gears are there. For a video of it running and extra photos please contact me.
It is a very complete car but does have the following items missing...
Joystick switch to adjust the wing mirrors (switches do come up on eBay)
Heater cover
Lower panel on the electronic clock
No door lock keys (outer locks are available new with keys)
Headlamp glass bowls but I would upgrade them to Halogen ones as the sealed beams were like having a gloworm on the front of your car. Kits are available to buy on eBay for 5. 75" lights
Jack and toolkit (which are nearly always missing)
The front spoiler was damaged unloading it from the truck but it could be repaired (or alternatively new ones are available)
There is an adaptor missing for the ignition switch (which is available)
The bonnet will need work around the hinge points
There is no history with the car I'm afraid but on the plus side it appears to be a very genuine car which has not been messed about with and in a nice colour. It has all the correct interior as it left the factory which is looking very tired now and the chassis (which was not galvanized on the S2) appears to be in reasonable order but does have surface rust, so assume a body off restoration will be needed.
The chassis does have the usual jacking dents in the front of it as nearly every one of these cars does. The engine looks clean and tidy with the original airbox. It has the correct Speedline wheels and the original spare. Both back wheels have a bit of kerb rash but nothing too bad and easily fixed during refurb. The rare original steering wheel and gearknob are both present and the speedo is showing just 75, 000 miles. These cars just don’t come up for sale like this very often (especially in such original order) with most now restored.
