1920s Morgan replica based on a
Honda CX500 V-Twin engine.
My elder brother inherited a Honda CC 500 motorbike with shaft drive to the rear wheel, and realised its potential to be the basis of a Morgan replica. He was a boat builder and engineer making steam boats for a living and could turn his hand to anything. After seeing my original JAP engined 1100 cc Morgan, he decided to build a replica of the earlier 1920’s Morgan.
This project took a while, as he first had to complete several boats, then, as he faced retirement, he had to close down his workshop. Although he now had the time to concentrate on the “Morgan” the down side was that he had to find smaller, alternative premises to build the vehicle. Eventually he did this.
Building the car took even more time because my brother was a perfectionist, so each part had to be designed, made and fitted to his exacting standards.
Sadly, his health deteriorated and he passed away in February, leaving his precious restoration unfinished. I am no expert but I would say he had completed roughly 80% of the work. The areas still requiring attention are the lighting, the bonnet and some wiring. It needs internal upholstery and the engine remains to be fettled.
I, as his personal representative, am now looking to sell the car and it would be ideal for an enthusiast who wants an exciting project for the summer months. It really is a fantastic opportunity.
I have a passion for Flat Tank Motorcycles and I would consider a swap for an early motorcycle in running condition, or alternatively I would accept cash offers.
