Description
RARELY do you see a Riley 4/ 72 offered for sale these days. It makes me shudder to think how many we lost in the 60s and 70s to £banger racing" but there you go. Then was then. The Riley was top of the tree in the Farina pecking order as it rose from the bottom with the Austin Cambridge, Morris Oxford, Wolseley 16/ 60, MG Magnette and finally the Riley 4/ 72 with its sporting pretentions. Complete with leather and wood interior, twin carbs and an up-rated engine giving 72bhp.
This proud old girl is a solid, survivor of a car and one which I would describe as being instantly usable. She has the 3-speed auto box as many Rileys did and it's a neat little shift on the left hand side of the steering column. Finished in Old English White and Dove Grey and completed with a Crimson leather interior, these are exactly the colour and trim stated on the car's British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate.
A very nice driver and a pretty car. There are some pain imperfections and she would benefit from a compound and polish. But a nice rare Farina model all the same. By the way, note the way the rear fins slope in over as opposed to the Morris, Austin and Wolseley variants whose fins are simply vertical.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 57-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Thanks, Martin. the details below.
