For Sale: Unique 1952 Riley RMB Special
Offered for sale is my unique 1952 Riley RMB Special, featuring a one-off hand-built aluminium body crafted by renowned coachbuilder Derek Vertenten. This beautifully engineered special combines classic Riley mechanicals with bespoke coachwork, resulting in a truly distinctive and usable classic.
Power comes from the desirable 2. 5-litre twin-cam Riley engine, fitted with twin SU carburettors, delivering the performance and character these cars are renowned for.
The car has recently been comprehensively serviced by the highly respected Reidling & Mouser Classic Automobile Services of Maldon, Essex. Recent work includes:
* New water pump
* Full rebuild of the twin SU carburettors
* Replacement core plugs
* Radiator refurbishment
The car presents superbly throughout. The quality of the craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident in every aspect, and it looks stunning from every angle. The engine bay is exceptionally clean, reflecting the care and maintenance the car has received.
Specification includes:
* Hydraulic front and rear brakes
* Rear single-leaf spring suspension with adjustable coil-over shock absorbers
* Cockpit tonneau cover
* Battery isolation switch
* 12V cigarette charging socket and USB charging port
* Brooklands aero screens
* Pre-war Riley Falcon radiator shroud
One of the great advantages of this special is that, as it retains the Riley RMB engine and running gear, parts availability is excellent through the Riley RM Club and its extensive network of specialists.
The car is not just a showpiece—it is a proven long-distance tourer. In May this year I trailered it to a friend’s home in the Corrèze region of France before embarking on a memorable 10-day, 1, 600-mile road trip. The journey included driving the spectacular Route Napoléon and continuing to the south of France to attend the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, which the car completed without issue.
Please study the photographs to appreciate the condition of both the bodywork and the beautifully presented engine bay.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Viewing is welcomed, and the car is sure to impress.
