1927 Lagonda 14/ 60 Tourer

The first of the Two Litre models, the Lagonda 14/ 60 was introduced in 1925. Available in Tourer and Saloon versions, the engine was an entirely new design by Arthur Davidson who had previously been with Lea Francis. The new engine featured twin camshafts and the cylinder head boasted hemispherical combustion chambers.

The 14/ 60 we present here has a most interesting history. Purchased new by a farmer from Arbroath and registered on the 25th May 1928, it was to remain in his ownership until the late 1950’s, being used regularly as a workhorse for many farm duties and being known as “Old Kirsty”, covering some 200, 000 miles before the engine had its first rebore. By the end of the 1950’s, the car had been sold to another farmer.

The next chapter commences in 1972, when a Mr Brownlie of Edinburgh acquired the Lagonda in derelict condition, it having been used as a hen house for some years. Much work was undertaken, including a body rebuild by a retired coach builder and the car was returned to the road in 1976. Another change of ownership came about in 1987, when the car was purchased from a London dealer by a Mr. Thomas of Sevenoaks, Kent. During 1989, much further work was carried out by Archer’s of Dunmow, including major engine and brake work.

The year 2000 was to see another change of ownership, before the present owner acquired the car in 2003. Since then, further extensive work has been undertaken, the details of which are all provided in the considerable file of paperwork. This has all ensured the car was in sound and reliable condition for touring, this having included the well-known Fougere Rally. The gearbox has been reconditioned with all new Lagonda Club gears, which ensured better ratios and a new clutch has been fitted. During this ownership, approximate 7, 000 miles would appear to have been covered.

The car presents very well, exuding a great charm with gentle patina. Now eagerly awaiting her next chapter, “Old Kirsty” is certain to give her next custodian many rewarding miles.
