The third series of the Escort marks the transition of the average Ford to front-wheel drive and independent rear suspension. It was the first car with a two-and-a-half-volume bodywork. When launched, it was awarded the Golden Steering Wheel in Germany and in 1981 it won the Car of the Year award.
