Description
This 1976 mg midget is in fair condition with a few imperfections on the bodywork and paintwork, yet it is a mechanically sound and enjoyable runner that can be driven in confidence on longer journeys. I have owned this car for just over a year and have done extensive work on the engine and running of the car with new; Battery, alternator, clutch cylinder and prop shaft renovation, and with new u-joints, and multiple oil and fluid servicing. I have been able to enjoy taking this great little car on a couple of hundred mile journeys with no issues at all.
prior to my ownership there is records of a whole new gearbox replacement showing around 10, 000 miles ago, a new head gasket and head skimming, this definitely resonates when driving the car as i haven't come across any foibles nor issues and can drive the car with confidence. The service history also shows a lower quarter body renovation, with both sills and front quarters being replaced, personally this work isn't to the greatest standard yet you don't notice it unless under critical inspection (see images), i decided to leave it and just drive the car for a bit of fun, which i believe cars like this should be.
currently the rubber bumpers are removed and dry stored due to preference, the car hasn't been adapted in any way to be a 'chrome bumper car' and i'm sure its not deceiving anyone that it is! Simply the bumpers came off and the 8 bolt holes were water sealed by some subtle bolts, to finish it off an additional gloss black grill from mgbhive was added with no irreversible mountings. Prior to selling and upon negotiation i would be more than happy to mount the bumpers back on (along with the headrests).
the interior is adequate for a car of this age, with a little tear in the drivers seat and the floor carpet a little rough around the edges it does the job yet isn't a show car! I have recently taken the convertible vinyl off and reinforced it in the top joining corners, this should be usable for a few more years of wear and tear.
ultimately this car is a brilliant runner with a little wear and tear cosmetically, yet it is ever so reliable and a fun little classic to enjoy on those summer days, i am in no rush to sell but would be open to sensible offers and possible part exchanges of classic cars / motorbikes
