This Land Rover will make a great restoration project.
Chassis no the details below makes this a Home Market 88" RHD 2L Diesel of which they only made 1282 making this rather rare.
Up to date V5 document ready to go in new owners name.
Tax and MOT and ULEZ exempt!
Original chassis plate and the chassis number is still visible on the front dumb iron.
At some point in the past the original 2l diesel has been replaced with a Series 1 571 spreadbore engine from 1955 which I guess was an economical conversion at the time!
Fast forward to today and of course the Series 1 engine is rather valuable in its own right (approx £3000). The engine turns over and has been briefly run from a can of petrol. It has a new carburettor (£270)
Luckily I have a correct 1961 2l diesel engine to go with it to put it back to original spec. This was running when bought and turns over well.
The Land Rover is complete.
The chassis is by no means a bad one, but will need a new rear crossmember, a drivers side front out rigger, some fettling of the front dumb irons but otherwise looks very original and sound.
The bulkhead is good around the top vents so would go again but will need the usual areas doing incl the footwells and around the top door hinges.
This will make an interesting project with the ability to claw back a considerable amount of money by selling the series 1 engine
The 2l diesels are very rare today but have a following among collectors.
