This is without doubt the finest VW Beetle we’ve had the pleasure of selling. Not only does it looks truly exceptional, very original and correct, it also drives beautifully and comes with exceptional low ownership, low mileage provenance with history back to new to include the original service booklet. This beautiful matching numbers car comes with a Volkswagen Certificate confirming the car was built on the 8th October 1958 and supplied finished in Black with Red leatherette upholstery. This 1200 Deluxe was sold new by dealership G. P Motors of Port Angeles, Washington and the original service book is stamped on the 12th December 1958 at 78 miles for its first inspection. The booklet also confirms vehicle type, chassis and engine numbers, and handwritten notes in the booklet confirm colour and key number.
The VW Beetle spent from 1958 to 1996 with the same family, passing from father to daughter and the history file documents the car was garaged daily from 1958 to 1988, and in 1988 the original engine was overhauled. The VW spent most of its life in Seattle, but being a garaged car, it never suffered structurally ensuring this has been kept incredibly original on the body. The enthusiasm of its previous owners is highlighted by two handwritten mileage logs with fuel receipts along with period accessories including vintage maps of Seattle, New York, Wisconsin and Ripon, along with a Pheonix travel goods suitcase, Beirette camera and a Shrader tyre gauge in presentation case. The mileage whilst it cannot be guaranteed is recorded at 79000 miles, and certainly believed to be genuine according to its previous owners.
After almost 40 years with its first owners, the VW Beetle was sold on in remarkably original condition and by the early 2000's was going through a sympathetic light re-furnishment program that included a full re-paint, interior re-trim, some chrome work and mechanical re-commissioning. The work is well documented by way of invoices, and by 2009 the Beetle was exported and arrived in the UK for the first time. Invoices since 2009 are on file for detailed upkeep and maintenance, and three and half years ago the Beetle sold to the last owner who has spent months highly detailing the car and keeping it at a high show level standard. Since 2009, the VW has covered just 1000 miles, and has no doubt spent more time being trailered to shows than actually being driven. It is indeed a car you could stare at all day, and have on display in any garage or collection.
Although the VW has covered ultra-low mileage on UK roads, we can say having comprehensively road tested the car that its first class to drive. The rebuilt original engine performs superbly, the gearbox is lovely with smooth changes and the VW handles and brakes perfectly. The Beetle cruises comfortably at 60mph and without doubt could handle longer distance touring. It has been incredibly well maintained with no expense spared and has continued to be further improved and detailed with its UK owners. The Beetle presents wonderfully with a gleaming paint finish, panels are excellent, straight and undamaged and the extensive chrome, a feature of the Deluxe model is fabulous. The car is beautifully finished with its period AA and GB badges and retains its correct VW and Wolfsburg Crest badges. The interior is outstanding, and credit must go to Janel Brothers of Seattle who carried out a first class re-trim including wool headlining and correct wool weave carpet. The original ivory knobs, handles and steering wheel are in excellent order, and the inside feels comfortable, luxurious and of an incredibly high standard.
This really does have everything, its correct with matching numbers and is truly outstanding in terms of its mechanical condition and cosmetics. The history file is truly unrepeatable and is just as impressive as the cars itself. We don't find them like this often, it's a very special motor car.
