The 1967 Ford Mustang represented the first redesign of the phenomenally successful model, the major mechanical feature was to allow the installation of the big block V8 engine. The first owner of this car took full advantage of this, ordering the car with the ultimate engine, the 390 cubic inch V8 4V carburettor engine and four speed manual transmission. It’s almost impossible to write about a Mustang in this era without name checking the iconic film Bullitt and this description is no exception, the car as driven by Steve McQueen is to the same specification and year as this one – just saying!
We have the Marti report on file, this is important as Kevin Marti retains all of the original IBM punch cards that confirms each Mustangs original specification and this confirms in detail how the car left the Ford factory in Metuchen, New Jersey in August 1967. We can ascertain from Marti and The Mustang Shelby Club of New York that the car was most likely built in the second week of August 1967. It was ordered and supplied via Gotham Ford Inc. of New York to a high specification as follows:
Mustang 2 Door Fastback
390-4V V8 engine
Brittany Blue paint
Light Blue And Dark Blue Crinkle Vinyl Luxury Seats
Four Speed Manual Transmission
3. 00:1 Limited Slip rear axle/ diff

So, it’s clear this original owner had studied the sales brochure carefully and had the funds to create an ultimate production Mustang specification.
Unusually, this 390 GT left the US when just two and a half years old and has resided in the UK ever since. The comprehensive history file with the car together with a book written on this particular car by Roy Parmenter document the incredible life it has led since arrival on these shores.
Needless to say a Mustang in the UK in this era was quite a statement and unlikely to be owned by a shrinking violet! This car very much proves this theory, however what unites each owner is a love of the car and great memories of their time spent with it. Copious letters, emails and photographs on file detail the many colourful adventures of car and owner, one infatuated owner missed it so much he bought it back whilst another painted the car iridescent white and named it Hawaiian Blues under which name it became famous on the show circuit, a frequent attender at Santa Pod Raceway and featured in various magazines, including the April 1982 edition of Hot Rod and Custom, a copy of which is on file.
Maintenance invoices, extensive correspondence and photographs amply detail the life of this Mustang since it arrived in the UK.
In about 2012 the car was sent to the highly respected marque specialists Mustang Maniac for restoration and following completion the brilliant result was shown at the Enfield Pageant on the 25th to the 26th of May 2013. Since then the last few owners have used the car sparingly on dry days only and hence it remains in the excellent concours condition in all respects and drives superbly.
Most recently the Mustang has been fully serviced by Pilgrim Motorsports and any area requiring attention has been addressed as detailed in the invoicing and correspondence on file.
A Mustang 390 GT S Code Manual is a rare bird in the UK, to find one in excellent order with a fantastic history is truly special.
