This beautiful and rare Black 300SL comes from long term ownership, purchased in 1991 when it was just five years old by none other than the then director of Argos. Much as we'd like to make a joke about filling in a small order card with a blue pencil and taking it to a cashier, the car was actually bought at Hughes of Beaconsfield. This Mercedes-Benz dealership then cared for the car for 10 years, between 1991 and 2001.
Present in the history file is documents which detail the transaction between Hughes of Beaconsfield and Mr R of Argos, including a magazine cutting which highlights some of the Hughes of Beaconsfield inventory with this and one other SL circled, presumably by Mr R prior to the purchase. The car was first registered in Mr R's name, but only from 24th May 1991 until 8th July 1991. The registered keeper was then changed to Mrs R, with whom it would stay for some 20 years.
Prior to arriving at SLSHOP this car has undergone significant preparation, including a refresh of that delicious black paintwork. It now presents as a ready to use, on the button car in a rare and desirable colour combination and with an interesting and comprehensive history.
Another black SL, one of only a handful of 300SLs we have seen in this colour. Not to be missed.
