Description
The W123 holds a very special place in my heart. It was a car we were ferried to and from school in, a car whose rear facing seats 6th and 7th seats were responsible for cheekily making rude hand gestures drivers behind when we were strapped in as kids. It was the first classic Mercedes I then went on to buy myself (in coupe form) aged 18. These days, there are very few of them left. At one point in time during the 80s, it was the most stolen car in the UK with most of those lifted ending up on taxi service in lands afar.
Since then, good UK examples have become increasingly fewer and further between but have more than stood the test of time from a usability, style and coolness point of view.
We are delighted to offer this lovely condition, low mileage (89, 000 miles) and low owner (5 previous owners) car. UK delivered on 07/ 03/ 1986 by Neale of Hertford Mercedes-Benz in Signal Red with black cloth interior.
The car’s pokey 4 cylinder, 2 litre prettily engine is more than ample for cruising around town and at motorway speeds. The manual gearbox suits the engine very well and the combination returns very reasonable miles per gallon when compared with its 6 cylinder siblings.
The car is equipped with a factory sun roof and we have just upgraded the radio to a new (but vintage looking) Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 with build in Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity and DAB radio.
The wagon has just been serviced by our on site Mercedes specialists Starwerks who also rectified a few minor niggles too including a new wheel bearing and new battery clamp. The car sailed through its MOT in October with no advisories.
To drive, the car is spot on and would make a great daily driver. Everything works and functions as it should. It’s incredibly practical too with the enormous boot and fold down rear seats as well as the factory fitted chrome roof bars, not to mention the fact it has 7 seats. Cosmetically, the car presents very well throughout though is not concours. There are a few marks on the paint but most importantly it is still one shade of red! Underneath, there is no rust and all four wheel arches are solid - a known Achilles heel of these W123s.
Whether hipster wagon, family adventurer or daily driver, we know this car’s next custodian is sure to fall in love.
As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
