The Montecarlo is a seriously under-rated and often-forgotten sportscar by virtue of the fact they are so exceptionally rare, with just a reported 69 examples left taxed and MOT'd in the UK today. It's really a shame because the more sought-after Series II models , as we have here, are cracking little cars with plenty of kerb appeal.
There were four factory options for the Coupé; a Targa-type roof, leather seats, air conditioning and (strangely), a nearside door mirror. This car has them all making it the "top-of-the-shop' Montecarlo. Styled by Pininfarina and representing the pinnacle of Italian motor manufacturing, this is in our eyes a baby Dino Ferrari meets 037 Lancia.
Offered in lovely Gloss Black paintwork with the correct style nose-cone colouring in contrasting grey, this car has its original cream leather interior which is in exceptional condition, and of course, that surprisingly throaty 2. 0 litre rear-mounted, twin-cam, signature Lancia engine. The stock standard wheels and spare, plus carpeted boot area, a clean interior, period dash, dials and new headlights make this car a very appealing Lot.
The car has only had 3 owners in total from new with one lady custodian from 1983-2013. The car has covered 61, 246 miles from new and will come with a new MOT as part of the sale.
The most recent owner, who acquired the car in 2013, has spent £10, 000 on the car with Italian car specialists Bell Sport & Classic over the past few years. This work has included a full cambelt service, rust repairs to the underside, replacement suspension bushes, a replacement alternator, reconditioning the radiator, servicing the car's factory fitted air conditioning and more. As such, today the car starts on the button and drives like it is on rails. It is surprisingly nippy.
The car overall presents well however there is some bubbling beneath the paint on both rear arches and door outer skin bottom, hence this not being a £25-30k example. Having been delivered in July 1982, the car is now "Historic Status" making it ULEZ, MOT and Tax exempt and thus the ultimate London summer daily driver.
