This Jaguar E-Type Series One 3. 8 Roadster has been owned by one family just two miles away from us in the village of Rillington for the last 31 years. Since 1992, the E-Type has covered around 7000 miles and has been recently maintained by a well-established and reputable garage in the village, A. H Ketley.
This early non flat floor car was manufactured on the 28th December 1961 for the export market, and was supplied new by Jaguar Cars New York. The car has always been Dark Green, and originally had a Green trim and French Grey Hood. The car still retains its original 3. 8 engine, and has been improved drivability wise with the later all syncromesh Jaguar gearbox.
Prior to coming to the UK in 1989, the E-Type was in Pleasant Hill, Missouri and had been with one owner from 1983. From the condition of the car, it would seem apparent the E-Type was subject to restoration work, and a conversion to RHD on its arrival in the UK, and the car was soon purchased by its long term owners. Whist used sparingly over the last 31 years, it was MOT tested locally most years up to 2012. The E-Type wasn't used from 2012 to 2022, and went to A. H Ketley for an MOT. The E-Type was fitted with a new pinion oil seal, brake master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder and serviced.
In 2022 the car also had a new set of tyres. Prior to being driven over to us, the E-Type was back with A. H Ketley, the cylinder head was removed, and the engine checked and found to be in very good order. The head was then re-fitted with a new gasket, and the car then fitted with new cooling hoses, spark plugs and points.
USU 323 is very much an older restoration that still retains a deep paint finish, bright chrome and is structurally excellent This is certainly an example that can be improved, it hasn't really seen cosmetic attention over the past 31 years, but has the appearance of a nice, straight honest car that could be taken to the next level. The price certainly reflects this and retaining its original 3. 8 engine this 1961 E-Type really does offer excellent value.
