EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
Externally the Ford Racing Puma was fitted with wider aluminium front wings and rear quarter panels which replaced the standard Puma items, wider, more aggressive front and rear bumpers were added to meet the wider wings and a front splitter was also added.
All examples were finished in Ford Imperial Blue paintwork, the only colour option available and commonly used on special edition Ford models of the era, all 500 FRP cars left the factory with a white paint under carriage.
The wheels were increased in size to 17" multi-spoke wheels known as Speedlines.
The Ford Racing Puma is equipped with the Yamaha tuned 1. 7 litre 16V engine. Power was increased by fitting higher lift camshafts, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and sports CAT, different inlet manifold (individually numbered to each car) and a modified engine management system that increased the rev limit.
The handling and braking is the Ford Racing Puma's party piece. It is said that the Ford Racing Puma is one of the best handling front wheel drive cars of all time.
Suspension upgrades included - Eibach uprated shock absorbers and springs fitted all round.
Braking upgrades included - Alcon 4-Piston Motorsport Front Brake callipers using 295 mm x 28mm ventilated discs.
Changes to the interior included Sparco front bucket seats trimmed in blue Alcantara with matching trim work to the rear seat bench, door panels and steering wheel.
CONDITION
This Puma is in exceptional condition, One owner from new and the odometer displaying an ultra-low 78, 900 miles.
The car has been carefully stored throughout its life, and unused on the road since it was fully restored at great expense in 2013 by an ex Ford employee, as you can see from the photos it was done to an exceptional standard with a meticulous care to detail approach. A feat that is now unattainable these days due to the lack of OEM FRP parts available.
Inside, the cabin is again exceptional and very close to ‘as-new’ condition with very minimal signs of wear on the bespoke Racing Puma Alcantara seats and steering wheel, interior carpets are perfect, and plastic surfaces look as good as the day it was new.
ACCOMPANYING THE FRP:
- Original high level spoiler, which I believe was a rare tick box option.
- Miltek sports exhaust that was purchased when new but again never fitted.
- A large history file with everything you need to see these days with a Limited Edition Ford.
