The Appeal
Known as the ‘Hades Hot Rod’ this remarkable creation is about as far from its Ford Popular origins as it is possible to get. Yet crucially, it retains the donor’s original steel body, rather than being a fibreglass replica. That is merely the jumping-off point for a specification that could best be described as extreme. For starters, there’s a fully rebuilt 6.6L big block Chevrolet V8 with Weiand supercharger, all fronting full body artwork by highly regarded custom artist Darren Horton.
The drivetrain is equally serious: a brand new TH400 automatic gearbox, custom-built by Edge Performance UK to withstand drag-strip duty, is operated via a Hurst shifter with electronic kick down. The rear end features a five-clip rose-jointed setup with a Detroit Locker differential and Strange shafts, while the prop shaft was built by Alan Hassel Racing Engineers. Every major component, from the MSD ignition system to the custom Sandersons headers and the alloy multi-core radiator with twin fans, has been carefully selected for both performance and presentation.
Beyond the spec, the key to a good hot rod is the level of cosmetic detail, and Hades does not disappoint. The interior has been retrimmed in quilted red leather and features Hurst fittings and a chain wheel. The work was done around 10 years ago, and since 2018, it has been part of the current keeper’s eclectic two and four-wheeled collection.
The vendor states that this is an exceptional show car, and whether your ambitions lie on the show field or the drag strip, this Ford Pop appears comprehensively built to deliver on both fronts. image.png1.34 MB
