SUMMARY
This Mini F56 Cooper is one of those rare modern cars that incredibly cheap to run, but equally is enormous fun to drive. It’s impressively quick, but is safe and has all the “Mod Cons” that we’ve now all become so used to.
Originally supplied by Stratstone BMW/ Mini, Harrogate, it’s actually spent most of its life in Wales, and stayed within the main dealer network virtually all of its life, in which time it’s been religiously serviced on the dot by its two previous owners. It comes with a watertight service history and provenance too, which backs up the the very low mileage of 30, 800 miles.
As you can see this is a quality example and not your average, often abused Mini you often find advertised; as they say don’t confuse it with the others lesser cars out there. The last owner, a husband & wife, bought the car on 18/ 10/ 2017 from Sytner, Newport (South Wales) and kept it right up to March this year, however as they needed a larger car to accommodate a growing family, they decided on an A-Class, which they bought from me, after finding my website. Now normally, I would be a little reluctant to take anything in PX that doesn’t carry the Three Pointed Star, but the exceptional nature of this brilliant little car meant I couldn’t resist it, infact I openly admit I was quite excited about it, which doesn’t often happen after almost 20 years in the trade. It certainly hasn’t disappointed; every time I drive this car, I find myself wanting to keep it.
Having had a few BMW Minis over the years, in fact my son currently has an R56 Cooper, I have to say the F56 is quite a considerable step forward in terms of refinement and ride comfort. Now I’m a diehard V8 fan, and have often joked that 3 cylinder cars are missing another 5-cylinders, but I have to concede the three cylinder twin entry turbo charged engine in this Mini is an absolute work of genius; the low, down, smooth torque is extremely impressive and it’s also capable of quite a sprint too. The best bit, along with its pin sharp handling is the ultra low ruining costs; it’s Euro 6 compliant so is ULEZ/ CAZ exempt, road tax is just £20 per year and fuel economy is highly impressive.
Bodywork is immaculate, with no dings and dents; what few minor imperfections were there were removed by my Dent man last week . I absolutely love the Volcanic Orange colour; it reminds me of my best friends mum’s Mini Clubman that we used to be ferried around in as kids in the late 70’s. However the real Party Piece is the large panoramic sunroof, which when open almost makes the car like a convertible, but with none of the drawbacks.
Mechanically, as you’d expect of a such a low mileage, well maintained car, it’s superb, everything works exactly as it should, and the three different and very distinctive driving modes mean the car can be what you want it to be, from a super economical Supermini, to the maximum Go-Kart fun mode. I’ve also just had the car serviced, so according to the on-board indicator, the next one isn’t due for either 19K miles or 2 years.
So, if you want a high quality, well maintained high spec, low mileage F56 Mini Cooper in arguably one of the best colours, you won’t go too far wrong with this little gem.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that.
