Sunbeam Alpine 1725cc Series V with Overdrive, finished in Signal Red with Black vinyl interior.
BACKGROUND
A 1968 registered Series 5 model, one in the last batch of this British 1725cc Rootes Group classic. The odometer reads 99, 032 miles which is well supported by the history file. The V5 shows 8 former keepers, plus the current owner of 17 years. Bill of sale included from purchase in 2006. A very healthy history file containing a plethora of MOT’s and invoices for work completed over the years. Garaged throughout current ownership and regularly maintained, receipts totalling in excess of £9, 000 have ensured a reliable and useable vehicle.
MECHANICAL
With 93bhp, the extra power and refinement make the Series 5 the best of them all and the one to own. The 1725cc engine benefited from several mechanical refinements that it easier to maintain. Twin Zenith-Stromberg carburettors delivered range topping performance. This Alpine was built with the all-essential fifth gear overdrive for modern motoring while maintaining the classic driving experience of a Gran Turismo from a bygone era. During current ownership, work includes engine rebuild, suspension, steering overhaul, servo brakes, electrics rewiring, reconditioning carburettor, interior trim and new clutch.
EXTERIOR
The exterior is bright although showing signs of patina and would undoubtedly benefit from some investment in improving the appearance/ paint condition. There is a little rust bubbling around the wheel arches, lower door skin and around the rear lights. On a positive note, all areas can be resolved with modest investment which would result in a striking Alpine with great provenance. The underside is solid and inner sills have been renewed during current ownership.
INTERIOR
All 4 of the black vinyl seats, carpets and door trims, are in good condition with minor age related wear commensurate with the mileage. The dashboard is free of any cracks or damage. The vinyl roof is in great condition and operates as it should. The rear window is clear and free of damage.
A great fun convertible and classic British sports car, that is useable from the day it leaves.
