XAB 106G was built on the 10th February 1969, finished in Brigade Red for the RHD Home Market. The Rover 2000 SC Saloon was supplied new by W Holloway & Sons Limited, Worcester and comes with a comprehensive history. The Rover spent its early life in Worcestershire and then spent from 1975 to 1988 with one owner in Cheltenham. The car stayed local in Cheltenham from 1988 for four years, selling in 1992 to an owner in Coventry who kept the car for 21 years and worked in the engineering department for Jaguar Land Rover.
Early into ownership, its long term owner decided to have the P6 rebuilt and sent the disassembled body to a Lancashire based Rover specialist. A photo record of the 1994 restoration is with the car and included cutting out all evident rust. New panels included wheel arches, side member panels, rear splash panels, lower wheel arch panels, new inner and outer D posts, new front inner wing panels, new front and rear door steps and repair sections were fitted to floor sections and inner sills. The front and rear suspension and final drive were removed, prepared and sent for shot blasting and refitted with new link bushes, panhard rod bushes, new diff mounts and bushes and shock absorbers were replaced. During this period, the engine was rebuilt, and the interior completely renewed by a friend of the former owner who was working at Jaguar Land Rover. In total around £8000 was spent, over double the cars value at this time.
This is now a car we know very well having first come across it back in 2015. Since this major work was carried out the Rover back in the 1990's it has covered around 13500 miles. Over the years since restoration, it has continued to be improved and well maintained. Further cosmetic work included some re-chroming and a full external re-paint due to the time since restoration. Mechanical work over the past few thousand miles includes new brake hoses, rebuilt master cylinder, rebuilt brake calipers, a full service and a thorough snag list to include clock repair, radio repair and various detailed items costing over £1200. In total around £2500 has been spent on mechanical related work over the years we have known the car.
Having been owned by one of long-term customers, a retired lawyer in Harrogate in 2015, we took the Rover in part exchange in 2017 and sold it to another long standing customer, this time in Leeds. Then once again, in late 2018 we sold the car to one of our customers in Hertfordshire who enjoyed and covered 2000 faultless miles in the car. Recently we sold the Rover for the fourth time to an elderly regular customer in Lincolnshire who has decided to change for an open top sports car for the finer weather. The P6 now returns to us as we sold it, in delightful condition throughout.
XAB 106G is a fabulous car and one that drives exceptionally well. The engine runs perfectly and is strong, smooth and sounds perfect. The gear changes are slick and smooth, the Rover handles and brakes beautifully and is an all-round absolute delight to drive. Everything appears to work correctly and it's clear the Rover has been very well detailed during recent ownership. The P6 presents beautifully with lovely, nicely aged paintwork, lovely straight panels, bright chrome and a gorgeous re-trimmed interior. The Beige leather is stunning, carpets are very clean and door cards, dash and headlining are all lovely. This is a perfectly usable, excellent driving Rover that is ideal for shows, regular or weekend use. This offers great value and can be driven and enjoyed with confidence, and having had a high quality restoration many years ago, it has the appearance and feel of a low mileage, high quality car.
