OFFERED for sale today by Martin Howey Classics (Est. 25 years) is a 1975 P6 Rover 2200 TC. The 2200 model was introduced in 1973 as a replacement for the 2000 and came in both SC (single carb) and TC twin carb) form. The model was also available as both a manual and an auto. This, in my opinion, is the very pinnacle of the 2200cc model. The TC manual.
Actually, I have always found the somewhat rarer 2200 model the best of the P6 range, tending to steer clear as I do of the 3500 V8.
And this stunning Rover comes with a huge added bonus. It offers power steering - which was only available on the V8 - electric windows and an electronically operated glass sunroof. Wow!
I would term this a somewhat "sporty" 2200 TC manual. She also has a Kenlowe fan, boot mounted spare availability and 3. 5 V8 tyres and diff which give a 16 per cent lowering of engine revs. The speedo has been recalibrated accordingly. An awful lot of clever work and money has gone into this outstanding P6!
Condition-wise, you would do well to find a better example. Panels and paint are superb as is the original interior. Another thing I always liked about the 2200 model was that, unlike the basic 2000 with its somewhat boring looking ribbon speedo, the 2200 was treated to the same stunningly designed multi-clock dash as the V8. It looks wonderful. She drives and handles just as you would imagine with PAS and would grace any show ground. Miles are low at just 48, 000 and the car comes complete with an excellent service and MoT history.
If you are looking for one of the prettiest P6s around with really low miles, history and the boost of power steering which many P6 owners wish they had, then this is the car for you. Without a doubt.
This description is based on my opinion of the vehicle, the paperwork that comes with the car and anything I have been told about it. The vehicle is 48-years-old and this cannot be taken as a definitive statement for obvious reasons. As with most classic cars, there may be faults and quirks whilst, almost inevitably, some degree of tinkering and care will always be called for. Such are the joys of owning an antique vehicle and they must be taken within their own context and not compared to modern day cars. They are sold as old, mainly out-dated machines and come without any comeback whatsoever. They are my terms and conditions.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. This car, for example, is 48-years-old. It's not two, five or even ten-years-old as your own everyday car may be. It has been in service for more than half a century and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. However, faults on these old girls are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
