Description
TODAY Martin Howey Classics (Est. 25 years) offers for sale a 1958 Morris Minor Traveller. This proud old girl, now 65-years-old, was almost ready to back on the road nine years ago when her owner became unable to work on her any further. The car as been garage stored ever since. The "golden" and nicely seasoned wood is in excellent order showing no soft spots whatsoever just normal colouring that comes with the ageing of the timber. Her floor pans appear to have been repaired to a very good standard and are all strong into the further most corners and in zinc oxide primer. Being a 1958 model she comes with the superior interior ie: leather seats, better dash with light coloured speedo, proper Morris banjo style steering wheel and of course the famous "clap hand" wipers! Engine-wise I can only go on what information I have been given. Engine was taken out and anything needed was done. It was painted and put back in. New exhaust system, electric fuel pump and other bits. Not been started since then I would suggest. Engine totally free. Also what likes a new brass topped radiator. I checked engine oil which was so clean that I thought there was none in! Some electrics needs sorting. No leads to battery. This is a project, albeit maybe just a couple of weekend's work. Brakes sticking too. I repeat. Selling as a project. Price reflects this. So, no you cannot drive her home. May well need some repair work underneath. So bear that in mind. You are buying someone else's work that needs finishing off. The two front seats need new webbing for support and the original leather may be saveable. This 65-year-old classic and iconic vehicle is a project. It is not the finished article. If you are not hands on yourself or know someone who is, then probably not for you. It needs tlc and is sold needing restorative work.
I have been trading in classic cars on a full-time basis for 25 years now. My descriptions are based on my own opinions and I do try as hard as I can not to be led by the heart as I have been obsessed with "older cars" ever since I was old enough to know what a motor car was! Please don't come and spend an hour hitting them and making the mistake of comparing the vehicle's condition to the one-year-old Audi you arrived in. They are antiques on wheels with stories to tell. They represent a part of social and economic history from the last Century. They need to be given good homes where time and love can be lavished on them. I do not restore them or spend countless hours polishing them. I consider myself to be one of the UK's foremost finders of eclectic classic cars and hence my pricing knocks many of my competitors into a cocked hat. Well, maybe a trilby would suit my little world better.
My cars are sold as old, mainly out-dated machines and are sold without any comeback whatsoever. Please don't ring a week down the line and tell me that the rev counter isn't working or that your friend had a look and found a hole somewhere. Their age dictates that work will always be ongoing. If you are not prepared for that, then don't buy a classic car. They are my terms and conditions.
Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
