Description

Ex Military Landrover 88" Series 1 2ltr spread bore petrol engine de-mobbed in 1965 on a ' C ' plate.
I have not asked for an age related plate as this would detract from the originality of the vehicle.

Purchased in 2015 off this very website.
Previous owner carried out a ground up restoration to include the following.......
Galvanised chassis purchased from the LRSOC at a cost of over £3000.
NOS Bulkhead.
New Brake lines.
Suspension and running gear overhauled and replaced where necessary.
Gearbox, Hi-lo range inspected and overhauled where necessary.
Fairey Free Wheeling Hubs.
Distributor rebuilt by the Distributor Doctor.
Re-wired.
New Exmoor Kahki Canvas Tilt.
Brush painted Brunswick Green bodywork making it a usable classic, no fear of scratching the paintwork.
Many period components retained where possible including a working Smiths Heater.

In addition to the above paperwork supplied with the vehicle is vast.
Mot's, Tax discs dating back to the 70's.
The best piece of History for the vehicle is the original card vehicle log book seen in the photos, very nostalgic.

In my ownership I have done the following.....
Radiator removed, radiator core pressure tested, repaired, retained and sympathetically touched up.
New HT Leads.
New complete Exhaust.
Exchanged the Jaeger speedo for a re-calibrated unit from a member of LRSOC.
Fitted New Windscreen/ Bulkhead seal again from the LRSOC as are the door seals which are glued in not riveted as they should be.
New Window Channels from the late Bob Jones aka " Tankman "
former member of Landrover Series One Club.
New passenger rear grab handles ( tailgate )
New Exmoor Trim Front Seats complete.
New Sand colour Exmoor Trim Fume curtain for winter use to cut down on drafts.
New Series 2 Radiator Muff re-worked to fit Series 1 to aid cold winter use.
Sourced a complete spare set of wheels including spare so I have 2 complete sets, one for regular road use the other for snow/ Green lane's.
I have changed the colour to Bronze Green using a roller giving a cleaner neater finish.

The vehicle has not been professionally painted as I would then hesitate to use the vehicle for fear of damage.

Perhaps it's a chance for the new owner to choose which of the many colours it has previously worn to finish off the vehicle in. I bought this Landrover in 2015 while my two boys were young coming from a 1968 VW Campervan, and they loved it.
Door tops removed, canvas removed, windscreen dropped pootling around the countryside was fantastic.

What attracted me was the meticulous attention to detail the previous owner had, cataloguing parts bought, the history file right down to the steering wheel boss.
I removed it and scratched into it was the Number Rank and Name of one of the many Drivers.

While in my possession I have down 3 Weddings and 4 High School Proms.
It draws a huge amount of attention wherever we go.

The bad points.
I believe the engine oil seal weeps, not a great deal it just leaves spots on the floor as does the swivel cup seals although I have used grease for these instead which if you are a purist is not correct.

Every once in a while I engage the 4 wheel drive Hi-Lo, Fairey Free Wheel Hubs to keep it all nice and freely working.

Oil and filter are changed every two years by myself, lucky if I cover 300 miles every year.

The family are all grown up now and no longer call for family trips out in the vehicle.
So with a slightly heavy heart the time has come for someone else to enjoy this Iconic British Institution.

I have had this vehicle valued way back in 2016 by Julian Shoolheifer Ltd and advised a cost new for old of £20, 000

It is currently insured with an agreed value of £32, 000 with Adrian Flux so in 7 years it has climbed £12, 00 which is a hint of the condition of this vehicle's worth.

Although I have 2 sets of wheels I have never taken it Green Laning as feared breaking any of the components.

I have added many photos some showing what little mileage that is accrued every year.

Naturally the vehicle is MoT & Tax exempt although I do get it Mot'd every year for peace of mind, currently valid til spring 2024.

It is thirsty round town and noisy but the vehicle is nearly 70 years old.
I run it on Full Fat E5 fuel with Reddex lead replacement.

The pictures show the huge history file and spare parts.

The vehicle is always garaged.
