Description
I have been the proud owner of this car for the last 38 years. I am an engineer and a Rolls Royce enthusiast who owns 3 Rolls Royce Cars, all in perfect running order and immaculate condition., but I am reluctantly selling one due to my age. I have always kept this car in a dry, warm, dehumidified garage attached to my house, ensuring the best possible conditions.
I have used the car in the past for local weddings, it was very popular and totally reliable. The regular short distance weddings in the summer were good for the car (regular gentle use is much better than leaving it in the garage). The income for 20 or so summer weddings was about £10, 000 each year.
GAU25 is a 20/ 25 Sports Saloon built in 1932, with an all aluminium body by Thrupp and Maberly. The colour is Ivory with deep marron coloured wings. Since owing it I have fitted a new aluminium cylinder head (essential for any pre war Rolls Royce). The engine has been rebuilt with reground crankshaft an all new bearings, rebored with new pistons and liners etc. The suspension has been rebuilt with new shackle pins and bushes, pivot pins (king pins)and bearings. The gearbox - all new bearings, clutch replaced and brakes relined etc. I have also fitted a small well hidden heater for winter driving - but this is easily removed if originality is required.
The previous owner rewired the car and had it all re-upholstered, (after 40 years - the upholstery still looks new). He also replaced the exhaust system, with partial stainless steel.
The engine is quiet with the proper oil pressure, always starts instantly, the ride is smooth, the brakes amazing (as good as a modern car). The steering is light and precise. The car has been totally reliable in the 38 years that I have owned and regularly driven it.
The car has a very useful good sized boot (unusual boot (unusual in 1932) and a large folding luggage rack. There is a large sunshine roof. The original semaphore indicators are on the car , but electrically disconnected. - modern discrete flashing indicators are fitted for safety reasons, but could easily be reverted to the original. Originally only one headlight was designed to dip (by mechanically moving the reflector). I fitted an original solenoid to the other headlamp, so they both dip - with the satisfying "clunk" as both reflectors move to the dipped position (and guarantee a MOT pass). Being built in 1932, GAU25 - just before Henry Royce died, the RR Radiator badge is the much-prized RED colour. After that date - all radiator badges were BLACK.
Included is lots of history since 1947, original Registration
Book (log book) from 1949, showing the owners and tax paid. Also every MOT since 1983 is included.
This Rolls Royce is a joy to drive, it always creates a lot of attention and admiration when driving or parked. When driving it, people often smile and wave - that does not happen in your brand new modern car, no matter how expensive.
