Description
NOW SOLD, FULLY PAID AND SOON ON ON ITS WAY TO THE USA - This is a genuine UK supplied RHD Triumph TR5 with overdrive and Surrey Top, which in my view, all TR'5s should have.
Registered on 1st August 1968 with the number plate EUR 30G, this original number plate is still with the car. It comes complete with a comprehensive history file, book packs and restoration photo album and benefits from having the all important Heritage Certificate. Although being registered as an "Historic Vehicle" and as a result of this, an MOT is not required, the car will be sold with a full 12 months MOT.
A photographic record shows the exemplary full nut and bolt, chassis-off major restoration. This was started by a previous owner in 2009 and was off the road until 2014.
The then owner, spent such a lot of time, effort and money, by using well respected professionals and using the best quality products to make the car the best it could be.
The chassis was blasted and professionally strengthened to rectify all the TR5 chassis design fault areas and then powder coated.
Enginuity carried out their exceptional bodywork skills to complete the fabulous look of this car and ensured that all the gaps are quite simply perfect and they finished the car off to a flawless paint finish.
The contrasting custom made, leather covered interior and the fitted stunning walnut dash, with matching walnut door cappings, finishes off the car to an exemplary standard.
Full engine reconditioning work, including carrying out the necessary upgrades to enable the engine to run on unleaded petrol, was carried out by Carlo Engineering, who are very well respected within the TR world. An oil cooler with stainless steel braided oil feed hoses and a screw-on-oil-filter adapter are also fitted. An alloy rocker cover is fitted, but the original chrome one is available if required.
The car has a new alloy fuel tank, an alloy classic Radtec cooling radiator and electric cooling fan. A wrapped Extractor exhaust manifold and a Phoenix stainless steel single exhaust pipe system is fitted, all of which is not loud, but which sounds rather amazing.
Getting the car to a point where it could actually pass an MOT, the then owner, decided to do so, with the intention of completing things like renewing the steering rack, drive shafts and diff unit etc at a later date, in between thoroughly enjoying getting out and about in it.
However, his circumstances unfortunately changed and needed to sell the car. He told me that the previous owner that he purchased the car from, assured him that the mileage of approx 78, 000 was correct and looking at the general condition of the car at the time, there was apparently no reason to think otherwise.
All the gauges including the speedometer were renewed during the restoration, using quality Smiths gauges and the fact that the car has only travelled 7, 000 miles since going back on the road, the car has still only covered approx 85, 000 miles total, since new in 1968.
Since purchasing it, I have really loved the look and drive of this car, but was determined to complete the restoration, getting the car as near to perfect as possible. So, over the last approximately 18 months, I have now had very expensive new MWS Stainless Steel 72 spoke wire wheels (not the much cheaper chrome ones) and all new top quality tyres fitted. I've also had new and upgraded CV-jointed rear drive shafts, new front and rear bearing hubs complete with new bearings and a new steering rack, all fitted by Maidstone Sports Cars. They also made a fabulous job of tidying up the wiring harness in the engine bay.
Next, the car went to Prestige Injection near Manchester, who are the true specialists when it comes to TR injection and have been trading as such for decades. They fitted only genuine new old stock Lucas injection system parts, (or refurbished where new was just not available), a new Bosch type fuel pump, all new fuel lines and stainless steel braided injector fuel hoses. The high end work carried out by them, ensures that the car will now also happily run on the latest fuels without problems.
Finally, the car went to TRGB to have the rear differential unit stipped apart and all new oils seals, gears, bearings and crown wheel and pinion fitted.... and what a fabulous job they made too. It has been a really difficult and heart-breaking decision for me to sell this car, but unfortunately, for personal reasons, needs must.
I had a TR5 in my early twenties and absolutely loved it, but I had to sell it due to marriage and a child. I always vowed that I would get another one, but it took me until passing my 68th birthday, for me to find this absolute corker of a TR5. So, in April 2021, I just had to buy it.
The car drives without fault and I strongly believe that this absolutely stunning "Best In Show" award winning car, really is the best looking TR5 that you will find, as I have been told this numerous times by other TR and classic car owners and the public alike.
Although to a true hardened TR5 enthusiast, this car, like a lot of TR5's is not totally loyal to the original design in certain ways, such as the seats for example. The original TR5 seats are well known to be uncomfortable and without headrests could be dangerous in a rear ended accident. The seats fitted in this car are really comfortable and due to the built in head restraints, it would be a safer car, if involved in a rear ended accident.
This car is just superb and if you are a genuine buyer of such a vehicle and take the trouble to come and view it in East Sussex, I am convinced you would buy it. SO DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY, AS TR5's LIKE THIS CAR, RARELY BECOME AVAILABLE !
