Few companies can lay claim to inventing the concept of a ?grand tourer? but Maserati coined the term in the late 1940s and continues to develop some of the greatest examples ever made to this day. In that lineage of luxury sports tourers lies the Maserati Mexico. A two-door coupe based on a slightly shortened Quattroporte chassis, the car was equipped with four generously sized seats and elegant coachwork by Vignale - one of the greatest names in coachbuilding. Following the 5000GT and the Quattroporte, the Mexico became the third road car to be powered by a ?civilian? version of the mighty V8 engine from the 450S race car. offered with the same engine variants as the Quattroporte, the Mexico came equipped with either the 4. 2-litre or 4. 7-litre displacement, as this model is a prime example of.
This particular car was purchased by its current enthusiast owner in 2016 who immediately had the engine rebuilt and all mechanical components enhanced with McGrath Maserati, spending in the region of £24, 000 on the car. The car was substantially restored around in the early 2000s and the interior remains in fantastic condition with the kitsch 1970s off-white leather in particularly good condition. Finished in a period sea blue paint, the colour works well with the brightwork albeit there are imperfections after 25 years of use, understandably.
