Description
Maserati Mexico 4. 2 – Italian nobility. Eight cylinders. The art of grand touring. Some cars captivate even before they hit the road. With the Maserati Mexico, all it takes is turning the ignition key to understand why Modena's grand tourers hold such a special place in automotive history. The elegant Vignale bodywork, the generous glasshouse, the fine leather and the precious woodwork combine with a characterful V8 to create this unique blend of sporting temperament and natural luxury that made travelling in Italy so desirable in the 1960s. A Mexico finds its place just as naturally outside a Riviera palace as on a winding road through the back country. Following the presentation of its precursor at the Turin Motor Show in 1965, the production Mexico made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 1966. According to Maserati's official figures, only 482 examples were built between 1966 and 1972, 300 of them fitted with the 4. 2-litre V8. This elegant Gran Turismo thus ranks among the rarest road cars the marque has produced. The history of this Maserati This Mexico was first registered in Rome on 18 April 1968, under the number B78418. A copy of its Italian Carta di Circolazione is available. Its entire history is traceable, an essential element of the appeal of this example. In 2014, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia imported this Maserati from Italy. Its condition and presence so impressed our managing director, Wolf von Massow, that he first chose to add it to his personal collection. In 2016 it was sold to a collector in Monaco, before joining, in 2023, the collection of a German enthusiast. We are now delighted to once again look after this Maserati and offer it for sale on behalf of its owner. We have been maintaining it since 2014. We have therefore known this car for more than ten years: an ongoing relationship that goes well beyond the familiarity a professional might normally have with a vehicle offered for sale. Elegance in Bianco Polo Park In its classic Bianco Polo Park white, the Mexico's harmonious proportions reveal themselves with great finesse. The original Borrani wire wheels complete this silhouette with the artisanal refinement that makes Italian cars of this era so recognisable. This Maserati presents in excellent overall condition, with remarkable paintwork. The cabin deserves particular attention: the original leather upholstery and woodwork are in near-new condition. They bear witness to the care and high standards applied at the time to building such an exclusive grand tourer. The tinted glass and air conditioning underline its character as a comfortable long-distance grand tourer. A classic character, sensible upgrades Beneath the long bonnet, the 4. 2-litre V8 unleashes its power, its presence and a sound that gives you instant goosebumps. From idle, its personality makes itself felt. As the revs rise, its voice becomes that irresistible Italian eight-cylinder melody for which you gladly leave the radio switched off. Two discreet improvements make the experience even more enjoyable: a 123 electronic ignition manages the ignition, while electric power steering, fitted later, provides welcome comfort during manoeuvres and on narrow roads. Thoughtful evolutions, in the service of the pleasure of driving a classic car. Discover the look and striking sound of this Mexico in our vehicle presentation on Instagram. Our view In our eyes, the Maserati Mexico remains one of the most underrated Italian Gran Turismos. Its rarity, its elegant Vignale bodywork, its characterful V8 and its generous cabin make up a package that few classic cars can offer. This example adds a traceable history, an exceptionally well-preserved original interior and our long-standing technical support. A magnificent 2+2 Gran Turismo for those who wish to live their passion for motoring with all their senses. Before you, the rocker switches line up like the keys of a small grand piano. Your fingers brush them, then you turn the key. The V8 awakens: a deep, low voice, laden with promise. A press of the accelerator, and the rumble becomes the song of a passionate tenor. What a voice. What a Maserati. You open the windows slightly and set off into the softness of the evening. Ahead, the road follows the curves of the coastline; at the next bend, the sea glitters. You let the eight-cylinder sing once more. This is why you chose to make the journey last. Amore mio, the others can wait. Further information...
