Description

THIS PORSCHE IS NOW RESERVED.

Is this a One-of-One Porsche?

We think it probably is......

This particular 3. 2 had an interesting start in life.

Beginning in the Porsche 'Special Wishes Department', produced in its (seemingly) unique colour scheme; 'Z' order 'Paint-to-Sample' Polo red (originally available from 1966-1969), complimented by a dark blue interior. We've certainly never seen anything like it before.

Further equipped with a sunroof, Sports seats and 16 inch Fuchs alloys.

Benefiting from a recent gearbox rebuild and top end engine overhaul, carried out here at Williams Crawford.

It was supplied new by Leicestershire based Porsche dealers, Roger Clark Cars Ltd.

Motorsport fans will appreciate this heritage; Clark, who sadly passed in 1998, aged just 58, was one of Britain's most successful rally drivers. With victories both home and abroad, driving for Ford, British Leyland and Porsche, in a career that spanned across the 1970's and 1980's. He was the first Brit to win a round of the World Rally Championship (The RAC Rally in 1976) and his commitment to the sport earned him an MBE in 1979.

Many of Clark's rally cars will be remembered for the '2 ANR' registration they wore (from the car in which he made his 1956 debut), and this very Carrera was assigned the plate on delivery in March 1984; it even gets a mention in Clark's autobiography, 'Sideways.... to Victory!', a copy of which is included with the car.

Accompanied by an extensive history file; 2 large ring binders with endless receipts and invoices, 35 MOT certificates, plus a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

It's an early 911 Carrera 3. 2 coupe; 1984, the first year that Porsche fitted the larger engine, and along with it, the ‘new’ computer controlled LE electronic fuel injection. It replaced the previous 3. 0 SC models, but for this first year, many familiar SC features remained.

These included the tombstone Sports seats, the aerial in the wing and the 3-spoke steering wheel. It looked just like its predecessor, except for the integrated front fog lamps and, more obviously, the rear badge.

From a driving point of view, these first generation 3. 2 hide a little known benefit: more vigour. More torque (189 v 209 foot pounds), and significantly more power (from 204 bhp to 231 bhp) than the outgoing 3. 0, but with no extra equipment to weigh them down.

Like the legendary 911 RS, they use the 915 5-speed transmission. Many people focus on the benefits of the later, bigger and stronger G50 transmission, though few have had extensive experience of both 915 and G50 types. The 915 set up has a smaller and lighter clutch and flywheel. Weighing less, the transmission takes less to ‘turn’. For the driver, a 915 feels ever more alive. This car also has the transmission oil cooler, a feature deleted from the standard equipment in later models.

The above helped with the 'go', whilst bigger brakes helped with the 'whoa'. The combination of all these features make these early 3. 2 great drivers machines.

And they're also pretty scarce. For 1984, just 4, 033 Carrera coupe were manufactured for the Worldwide markets (that includes LHD and RHD). A very small number came to the UK, and it seems, fewer still remain.

We like this 911 all the more for its noteworthy story, hence taking the time to tell you all about it. Having any nice Porsche is special, having something this interesting and desirable, is exceptional.
