EXTERIOR
Becoming a household name for the GT2; nicknamed ?The Widow maker? this stunning example is finished in Guards Red, an historic Porsche colour and one rarely seen in amongst the plethora of black and sliver more commonly seen. Markedly different from the Turbo model, the extended front bumper with additional carbon fibre vents, carbon fibre wing mirrors, staggered carbon fibre rear wing and gaping intakes point to both an aerodynamic and performance advantage, although its design remains somewhat more subtle than it?s RS stablemate.
The front end presents in wonderful order, free of marks or chips. Arrow straight on both flanks, with both of the rear arches again pleasingly mark-free, this GT2 is in first class condition with rubbers, plastics and surrounds remaining soft and supple with no discolouration or age related wear.
INTERIOR
Upon entry you are met immediately by ?GT2? branded sills as you hunker down into the unmarked bucket seats with the leather remaining in terrific condition and only very minor creases in keeping with the cars age and use, whilst sills, carpets and gearbox tunnel remain mark and stain free.
A rare factory carbon centre console and gear knob add to the theatre with no marks or scuffs present. The rear features a silver factory Porsche roll cage. However, despite all of these track focused optional extras, air conditioning, climate control and electric windows are also present with a PCM Multimedia display that boasts full control of sound, navigation and telephone Module. Finally, in keeping with limited variants of years gone by, the GT2 icon sits proudly imprinted in the carpet behind the front seats.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Derived directly from the company?s Le Mans winning 911 GT 1 the shattering performance feels somewhat quicker than the more modern machinery today. The 996. 2 received an update over the mark 1 with an improved engine management system and installing the latest K24 turbos, peak output went from 462bhp to 483bhp at an unchanged 5700rpm. Rather more in keeping with Turbo?s of the past, there is turbo lag but enough natural torque to mask it and keep the GT2 driveable off boost with only a short delay before the engine comes to life producing just under 500 lb/ ft of torque. The GT2 was considered a true super-car in terms of performance when it first came out of the factory and even today still encompasses and captures an intensity that cannot be mimicked by modern day models.
The engine bay presents in immaculate condition through a combination of stringent upkeep and fastidious ownership recorded by its low mileage and service invoices.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Noticeable difference to the 996. 2 are the 18? GT3 Style alloy wheels, they remain in great condition and clad in a set of Porsche N Rated Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with excellent tread remaining.
The factory Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes provide unparalleled stopping power without fading in even the toughest of conditions.
