It was the first Ferrari V8 road car to have a mid-front mounted engine. Built entirely from aluminium, it retains the typical Ferrari architecture with a 90 degree angle between the two cylinder banks and a 180 degree angle between the cranks. The 4, 297cc engine has a maximum power output of 460 hp, and maximum torque is 485 Nm at 5, 000 rpm. 0 - 60 mph acceleration is achieved in less than 4 seconds and the California has a blistering 193 mph top speed.
The California's engine sound was carefully developed, and really contributes to the driving pleasure. The trademark thrill is available whether the top is open or closed without compromising on occupant acoustic comfort.
When designing the Ferrari California, Pininfarina opted for a classical, sculpted chassis, with a long bonnet and the passenger area slightly weighted towards the rear.
